For a team with 11 new players, things sure looked eerily similar Saturday when it came to the box score for Kapuskasing.
The Great North Midget League’s 2018/19 season got kicked off for the Flyers Saturday on the road in Sudbury at Countryside Arena.
Despite having a boatload of fresh faces in the lineup for opening night, the Flyers were led by some very familiar names when it came to the score sheet, including a pair of goals from returning forward Dawson Linklater in what would turn out to be a solid 4-2 victory over the Wolves behind Carson Boutin getting his first start in goal.
A very chippy, back and forth first period between the two sides saw the Flyers kill a pair of early penalties while also grabbing their first goal of the season and first a man up, thanks to a wonderful snapshot from Alexandre Blais to pick the top part of the net.

After a late first period marker from the home Wolves evened the score through one, the Flyers and Wolves again played to an even second frame.
A back and forth second saw late goals from both sides, including Brendan Aubertin’s first of the year on a back-door tap-in once again on the man advantage.

The third period though was where the Flyers took control, thanks to a returning forward who would put the capper on a four-point evening with his first two finishes of the year.
Midway through the third, Aubertin was able to return the favour to linemate Dawson Linklater, another returnee for the Flyers, who gave them the lead for good.

Before all was said and done Linklater would score his second of the game minutes later to put Kapuskasing in the driver’s seat for the remainder of the evening.
Despite going shorthanded five times on the night the Flyers were perfect on the penalty kill, and were two for four with the man advantadge, offering a good omen moving forward for Head Coach Glenn Denney and his staff.
In total, three returning Flyers scored, and contributed a total of 8 points between them as well as an assist from captain Alex Lapointe.
The Flyers return to action today with puck drop set for 12:00pm versus Sudbury from Countryside Arena.
