Exchange Trip Opens Doors For Local Student

A local student had an across the globe journey this summer to Austria.

The Rotary Club of Kapuskasing’s Exchange Program, which saw a school-year long visit from a 16-year-old Muriel Blatter of Switzerland a year ago, provided a pair of young ladies in 2018 an across the globe journey.

17-year-old Jany Scherer of Kapuskasing and 19-year-old Tatjiana Stangl of Austria spent three weeks each living with one another in their home towns.

Scherer says the experience of being in Austria began as a struggle, and turned out a blessing.

She says based off her experience, she is looking forward to growing her knowledge on the language.

Scherer says there were struggles for both of them along the way, but through the trip they both seemed to learn and grow from their experiences.

She says in many ways the experience showed her how uniquely different cultures and countries around the world are from one another, but also how they are similar as well.

Scherer says looking back she would never pass up the opportunity to enjoy this kind of eye-opening experience once again.
