Cuts To Overdose Prevention Sites Could Be Deadly

The Leader of the Ontario NDP says the Ford government is threatening the lives of Ontarians.

According to Andrea Horwath, Doug Ford’s latest decision to cancel the new overdose prevention sites across the province goes against advice from experts and community members.

Mushkegowuk-James Bay NDP MPP Guy Bourgouin says he wholeheartedly agrees with Horwath that putting a stop to these previously approved sites is only worsening things for Ontarians.

Bourgouin says the opioid crisis is continuing to effect communities across the province and this addiction will only worsen considering the cutting of millions of dollars in funding for addiction and mental health services.

He says Ontarians will only further struggle to access services they urgently need.

Ford’s plan to cancel the sites stems from his policy to shift the focus to drug rehabilitation instead, as he has claimed he doesn’t believe in safe-injection areas, but rather he believes in supporting the people to get help.
