As of 12:00pm today the town of Kapuskasing was alerted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry that he fire ban or restricted fire zone over the community.

With the weather having seen more rain and slightly less humidity over the past few weeks according to Environment Canada, the municipality has lifted all restrictions with open fires.

The MNRF currently ranks Kapuskasing and fellow Highway 11 corridor municipalities between Hearst to Smooth Rock Falls as under a moderate fire danger rating at this current time.

MNRF Spokesperson Isabelle Chenard says that despite the lift of the fire ban, residents should still be taking caution with all open flames.

Chenard also says these communities could still see a fire ban reinstated if another hot, dry spell of weather was to take place.

Here is the latest fire map from the MNRF.
