Espace Hearst A Go

Despite some disagreement amongst the local community, Hearst will be building its pavilion.

Decided at council, the town has moved forward with their intended project titled Espace Hearst, which involves building a new community pavilion which would sit on the grounds of Town Hall.

A move which Mayor Roger Sigouin has said is being made in part to avoid the continued use of temporary tents for events which has become costly for the town.

The decision was made to choose design option ‘A’ and to select Batisseurs Strategik Builders Inc. with the construction of the pavilion for the tendered price of $860,000 plus HST.

Council has a budget of $1,020,000 for the project thanks to the NOHFC and FedNor having both funded $459,035 towards the project in grants, and the municipality will cover the final $106,508 over the next two years of construction.

The town has decided that Espace Hearst will accommodate smaller events at a maximum capacity of 300 people and will also be versatile enough to handle both summer and winter conditions.

Recently, a pair of local petitions were brought to council in the past few weeks but was unable to effect any change to the town’s decision.

The total cost of the project is estimated at roughly $951,110 total.
