With the long weekend here, the MNRF are reminding campers to be bear wise.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry have sent out cautions to warn campers to be bear wise during the holiday long weekend.
A spokesperson for the MNRF says when enjoying the lake, forests, hiking trails or even campsites; always remember you are in a bear’s natural habitat.
The spokesperson says to prepare by planning your trips with safety in mind by teaching your kids how to avoid attracting a bear, as well as how to properly store your food.
They also say to keep a close eye on signs of bear activity near your campsite, as well as to keep your dog on a leash when camping and to never store , cook or eat food inside your tent.
