Draft Management Plan For Hearst Forest Under Review

The MNRF and Hearst Forest Management have come together on a draft plan for the next decade of the Hearst Forest.

Following the approval and implementation of a two-year provisional plan for the forest back on September 23rd of last year, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has now put forward a Forest Management Plan to cover the years of 2017 through 2027.

The MNRF and Hearst Forest Management are opening the draft up to the public to view online or in person and to share comments regarding the proposal which is now under review.

Planning and Operations for Hearst Forest Management Brad Ekstrom said back in the fall that their provisional plan would speed up the process for their ten-year management plan.

Ekstrom also said the plans both account for all facets of forest management, whether it be dealing with habitats, harvesting, road building, horticulture, etc.

He says this also includes the ever changing climate; something he says will be a big factor to deal with.

The Draft FMP is available to be viewed here.
