Pair Of Forest Fires Still Ongoing Outside Hearst

While forest fire activity has recently been quieter, there are still 2 active fires outside of Hearst, according to the MNRF’s AFFES.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services team says crews were battling new fires in the Hearst area as of Thursday night.

Currently, 66 active fires are ongoing in the northeast region, with 28 not under control and 38 under control or being watched.

An MNRF spokesperson says currently Hearst has two fires ongoing which are not under control.

One, titled Hearst 12, which sits northeast of the Mattagami River, covers over 475 hectares and the other, titled Hearst 13, is 200 hectares and located roughly 35 kilometres north of Highway 11.

The spokesperson says currently more resources from across Canada as well as Minnesota have been brought in to help.

In the coming days, further support of additional crews and equipment from Wisconsin, Newfoundland, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories is also expected.
