OPP Safe Trucking Campaign Underway

Operation Safe Trucking is underway this week.

From July 15th through the 21st members of the James Bay Detachments of the OPP are enforcing rules of the road and moving violations, specifically for Commercial Motor Vehicles.

The OPP deals with thousands of CMV and has so far this year responded to 3,600 transport truck related collisions with 41 casualties.

Media Officer Stephanie Belec says many CMV drivers contribute to safe Ontario roads but unfortunately operators who commit offences such as distracted driving or impaired driving must be caught.

Belec says the OPP will be focusing on these offences during Operation Safe Trucking:

  • Following too close
  • Speeding
  • Improper lane changes
  • Distracted driving
  • Improper turns
  • Failing to yield
  • Improper passing
  • Disobeying traffic control

The James Bay Detachments OPP wants to remind the public to drive carefully, so that everyone can make it home safely.
