Kapuskasing is saying no to the idea of a Community Risk Assessment.

At council tonight Kapuskasing Mayor Alan Spacek and fellow councillors supported a request from Hornepayne to oppose the new risk assessment requirements posed in a new provincial regulation.

Spacek says this is a perfect example of the government making small municipalities shoulder more of the province’s burden.

He says especially when there is no way to understand if there is value to these assessments.

When asked if he felt the assessments were extra costs for no return, Spacek said that was a pretty fair evaluation.

Council will now await and see what the response is from other municipalities to Hornepayne’s request before the provincial government takes its next step.
