The town has announced their choice prior to this year’s Kapuskasing Lumberjack Festival of the longtime Moonbeam resident who has over 50 years of forestry experience. Filion has already been recognized for his work in the industry by his former employer Tembec back in 2012 when he was presented a certificate commemorating his 50 years of log hauling. So well-known and liked during his time within the industry, Filion earned the nickname Mononcle Rosaire or Uncle Rosaire from fellow workers and staff. Filion says the reason he really got started as a Lumberjack all those years ago is simple, to buy himself a shiny new set of wheels. He did just that, buying a 1960 Ford Fairlane 500 when he had the chance. After retiring four years ago in 2014 at the ripe age of 72, Rosaire Filion can now add Honourary Lumberjack to his list of accomplishments.
