Travellers Asked To Avoid Temagami Region Due To Fires

The Temagami region should be avoided when traveling.

That is according to the OPP and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, who both have announced that a forest fire is forcing people living between Finlayson Point Provincial Park Road and Jessie Lake to evacuate their homes.

The OPP currently says people from the Temagami region are being told to travel north along Highway 11 to escape the fire.

At this time, police say the town of Temagami is currently on a voluntary state of evacuation.

There are currently no road closures, but fire conditions could in fact worsen which would lead to the closure of Highway 11.

Officers say if you are planning to travel, avoid Highway 11 between North Bay and Temiskaming Shores.
