Museum learns name of mystery girl in 1938 photo

It didn’t take long for staff at the Ron Morel Memorial Museum in Kapuskasing to identify the girl in a 1938 photograph.

The 10-year-old has been positively identified as Rae Gardiner, formerly of Kapuskasing.

The museum put out the call asking for help to identify the mystery girl after acquiring the photo from someone who bought it at an antiques dealer in Timmins.

Local resident Anne Green saw the image and positively identified the young girl as Gardiner.

With Green’s information now in hand, the museum staff found a 1951 photo of Gardiner’s wedding day and her new last name.

That new information made it easier to track down her children.

Staff learned that Gardiner, who would be 90-years-old, passed away a while back.

However the museum is now reaching out to her children to reunite them with their mom’s photograph.
