Water And Sewer Budget Sees Slight Increase

Kapuskasing’s 2018 Water and Sewer Budget will see a slight increase this July.

According to Chair of Finance Dave Plourde, the bill for water use will increase by 9.5 per cent or 23 cents per cubic meter this July.

Plourde says in recent years costs were based on assessments of each property and its water consumption.

He says the municipality now plans to change that formula over the next five years by phasing out their current structure.

Plourde says as of now you are billed the same for your sewage as water automatically, they are changing that.

He says the town will have a percentage of sewer service costs absorbed by their water bill beginning with 12.5 per cent this year, in order to accomplish this.

At this time, major water users within the community are being consulted on how to best accommodate these new regulations.
