UPDATED: Highway 11 Re-Opened Near Mattice Following Fatal Crash

A fatal crash on Highway 11 has shut down a section of the roadway between Kapuskasing and Hearst.

Moose News was told around 12:00pm of a crash along Highway 11 near Mattice at Clear Lake Road by local listener Andrea Nolet.

Nolet says as she came upon the crash area where OPP had closed down the highway, she noticed a transport truck that had collided with a car.

OPP Media Officer Stephanie Belec says the driver of the car, 19-year-old Shawn Grondin of Schumacher was pronounced dead at the scene after Hearst officers of the OPP arrived shortly after 9:45am along with Emergency Medical Services.

Belec says Highway 11 between Hearst and Kapuskasing remained closed for several hours until the investigation was complete.

She says at this time, OPP believe the transport was traveling westbound when it collided with car which was headed eastbound.

Belec says at this time the collision is still under investigation, and police will provide further details as they become available.

As 0f 9:45pm Sunday Highway 11 was re-opened according to the Ministry of Transportation.

A post-mortem examination of the body is expected tomorrow.
