Fort Albany Evacuees Now Enduring A Long-Term Evacuation

25 Members of Fort Albany First Nation will continue to call Kapuskasing home.

Fire Chief and General Manager of Protective Services Pat Kennedy says the Fort Albany evacuees will be enduring a long-term evacuation by staying through the summer.

Kennedy says the process of fixing sewer lines in the remote First Nation community has taken longer than expected.

He says in order to better accommodate the extended stay, they will be moved into permanent residences.

Kennedy says they are expecting a four to six month timeline on the repairs in Fort Albany.

Fort Albany evacuees located in Kapuskasing were originally told they would be allowed back home in early May, now they are heading into their fourth month away from their homes.
