Public Works Restarts Forcemain Project On Lemarier Street

The reconstruction of a forcemain on Lemarier Street is back underway in Kapuskasing.

That’s according to Manager of Public Works Eric Cote, who says the project was restarted this past week as blasting resumed in the area.

Cote says the project took an almost four month break due to a high level of frost over the Lemarier Street construction zone.

He says before the break, roughly 70 per cent of the projected had been completed.

The project began on Mill Street and has taken them through to Lemarier Street, as well as west of Lemarier through to Laval Street.

Cote says the drilling and blasting began again this past week.

He says the time frame is roughly three or so weeks if things go according to plan.

Cote says thanks to their success blasting, they could finish a little under their expected costs with the project if all goes well.

The project, once completed, will have corrected a forcemain issue, as well as replaced older pieces of pipe with newer pieces to allow future crews easier access for repairs.
