Council Agrees To Purchase New Dump Truck

Kapuskasing has decided to go ahead with purchasing a new dump truck rather than repairing the old one.

Chair of Finance Dave Plourde says council came to agree on a $40, 349 cost plus HST with Lecours Motors Sales in comparison to an expected $15,000 minimum in repairs to their current truck.

Plourde says Lercours had the cheapest quote of the three bids, and was therefore an easy choice.

Since January, the Public Works department has already rid of two pickup trucks and two utility trucks due to wear and tear.

Mayor Alan Spacek said back in mid-April that the town’s 14-year-old one-ton dump truck was in need of repairs, worth up to an estimated $13,000.

Plourde says the process endured some issues but in the end the purchase was both fair and needed.

The one-ton dump truck being purchased will be used daily for hauling material, gravel, snow in the winter and will be a major part of their spring cleanup and recycling program.
