2018 Municipal Budget Sees No Tax Increase Or Significant Cuts

Kapuskasing is breaking even this year.

At council this evening the 2018 Budget was finalized and announced.

Chair of Finance Dave Plourde says there will be no increases in taxation or decreases.

Plourde says the town will not be seeing any significant cutbacks but there will be changes made.

He says increases in spending are coming to Recreation and Cultural Services, as well as Planning and Development and Protective Services.

Plourde also says their Pool project will see a nice boost as well.

He says very small cuts have been made to Transportation Services and Community Development such as the Lumberjack Festival.

Plourde also admits some of the cutbacks from last year’s budget will now be seen at work even more so this year.

The budget will also see the addition of a Senior Advisory Committee and Youth Advisory Committee, which Plourde sees as terrific steps.

He says a budget with no tax increase, no extra costs, is something to be applauded.

Plourde says funding their projects for 2018 through the Reserve Fund alone, is also a big plus.

In the end, the town’s overall income and expenditures will end up equal at $18, 635, 491 for 2018.
