Residents of the Kashechewan First Nation are finally getting to return to their community.

Roughly 1,800 evacuees who have been housed in different communities across Northern Ontario will return home today.

For the past three weeks 447 residents stayed in Kapuskasing, 139 in Smooth Rock Falls and the remaining were spread between Timmins, Cochrane, Thunder Bay and a host of other communities.

Emergency Management Ontario has stated the return of evacuees began Thursday and will continue through the weekend.

Kapuskasing CAO Guylain Baril could not be reached for comment on the matter at this time.
