Hughes Says Wire Brushes Should Be Avoided This Barbecue Season

As outdoor barbecue season begins one Northern MP is saying stay away from wire brushes.

Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes says the Standards Council of Canada is attempting to establish new guidelines for barbecue brushes after multiple cases of people ingesting wire bristles.

Hughes says Health Canada commissioned the SCC to develop new guidelines and the Retail Council of Canada will consult during the process.

She says concerns have been raised for over a decade regarding the wire brushes.

Hughes says to ensure your barbecuing is safe this season, she suggests non-metal brushes.

The guidelines for the new standards are expected to be completed and announced in the next year to a year-and-a-half from the time the request for proposal is complete.
