The first ever student senate in District School Board Ontario North East will have its first meeting during education week.
DSB One says this senate is made up of two students from each high school and two indigenous representatives. This year’s education week is themed around “Equity in Action”. Director of Education Lesleigh Dye says this theme is perfect for the first senate meeting because it’s all about meeting each students needs.
Dye says it’s exciting to see students stepping up and voicing their opinions. She says DSB One is working hard to get as much student input into any decision as possible.
She says the senate and student trustees will be elected by students rather than appointed by teachers to ensure the students are getting the voice they want to represent them.
The public meeting will run from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on May 8th at 153 Croatia Avenue in Schumacher.
