Ford Promises Resource Revenue Sharing For Northern Ontario Region

Ontario PC’s are promising northerners a portion of the money the province collects for aggregate licences, stumping fees and mining taxes. These are fees and charges placed on the mining and forestry industries for permits and licensing.

Leader Doug Ford says this initiative would be part of a formal resource revenue sharing program that would ensure the benefits from Northern Ontario stay in the region and Indigenous communities. Ford says he doesn’t have the exact percentage of money that would stay here versus go to the province, but he is thinking it would range between $20-30 million.

He says it’s northern resources so northerners should benefit and that’s only fair. Ford adds that this is not a ploy to buy votes. He says he “isn’t Kathleen Wynne” and he “doesn’t have to do that”.

Ford says this is something the province can afford to do and he wants to put money back into the community.
