Kashechewan Evacuees Finish Arriving In Kapuskasing

Nearly 450 Kashechewan residents have been flown into Kapuskasing.

That’s according to Kapuskasing CAO Guylain Baril, who in a press release stated that following a full weekend of evacuation, all evacuating residents have now arrived.

Baril says these residents are all being lodged at local motels within town and are being fed meals out of the Civic Centre Auditorium.

He says the evacuations have taken place as a precaution to the Albany River overflowing near Kashechewan.

Baril says there is no expected timeline for the stay, but traditionally the evacuations have lasted between a few weeks and a month.
