The NDP’s Carol Hughes says it’s time to take action and expand the Canada Health Act.
The Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP says the NDP will continue to put pressure on the government to enforce changes to pharmacare such as the inclusion of prescription drug costs.
Hughes says currently, one-in-five Canadians can’t afford prescription medications.
She says a universal pharmacare program would cut costs, be fairly distributed and a safer process.
A report from the Parliamentary Budget Office says implementing a ‘universal single-payer’ plan would cut $4.2 billion from the current cost of prescription drugs in Canada.
