Fort Albany Residents To Find Out Friday If Stay Is To Extend Further

Roughly 30 Fort Albany First Nation residents should know by Friday how much longer they will be away from their homes.

That’s according to Fire Chief and General Manager of Protective Services Pat Kennedy who says a conference call will decide how much longer the evacuees must stay in Kapuskasing.

Kennedy says the re-freezing of the sewer line has been a major problem so far, but the nice weather should help.

He says the town has made the effort to keep the evacuees as comfortable as possible through this dilemma.

The conference call taking place Friday afternoon will decide when the Fort Albany First Nation can begin returning to their homes, or must prolong their already three month stay.

The Fort Albany First Nation residents have been re-located in Kapuskasing since the end of February.
