Hughes Wants National Pharmacare Program For All Canadians

Canadians shouldn’t have to struggle to pay for prescription drugs.

That’s according to Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes, who says a national Pharmacare program is the country’s best answer.

Hughes delivered a petition calling for Pharmacare at parliament, saying the government should get on board with the idea as Canadians would be best served by a full program that brings the most economic benefit.

She also says Canada is the only country with a universal Medicare system that does not include prescription drugs and currently one in five people is unable to fill their prescriptions due to financial reasons.

Hughes says that is why people are asking the government to work with the provinces to implement a universal pharmacare program as part of the public health care system.
