Hughes: Liberals Are Failing On Promise To Make Changes To Canada’s Election Laws

Changes promised by the Liberals to Canada’s election laws have been gathering dust.

That’s according to NDP Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes, who says opposition MP’s want to know why the government has yet to move on Bill C-33, first introduced back in November of 2016.

Hughes says there are seven changes within the Canada Elections Act focused on improving the current legislation, all of which are needed prior to the next federal election in October of 2019.

She says even new Elections Canada CEO Michael Boda says these changes are needed.

Hughes says after almost a year and a half of waiting, things need to get done quickly.

She also says Bill C-33 is crucial to the next election’s outcome, considering it contains temporary conditions and makes ensuing changes to other acts as well.
