Hughes: Temporary Foreign Workers Finally Getting Some Help

NDP”s Carol Hughes says vulnerable foreign workers are finally getting a bit of help.

The federal government has announced that Service Canada will begin inspections on employers of temporary foreign workers and the Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP says this is a small step in the right direction.

Hughes says roughly 30,000 employers use the Temporary Foreign Worker Program across Canada, and are all subject to an inspection.

She says far too often workers from foreign countries do not know their rights, and that is something that needs to change.

Hughes says no matter where you work; you should know your rights and be respected.

Last year alone 2,800 inspections were done, and just over 30 employers failed to provide appropriate wages or working conditions.
