Thanks to a Northern MP’s push the health committee will perform an emergency study regarding beverage regulations.
Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes is seeking tougher regulations on caffeinated, high-sugar drinks following the early March death of a 14-year-old Quebec girl.
Hughes says they are pleased with the government’s decision.
She says despite alcoholic beverages not being sold in convenient stores in Ontario, high-sugar energy drinks are still a big sell for youth.
Currently an emergency study is being done by the government regarding caffeinated beverages with high-sugar content, with results expected by June.
