Kapuskasing is joining the push for more control over potential private landfills.
The municipality is supporting the Township of South Stormont in their push for more control over possible private landfill sites to be open within town limits.
Public Works Manager Eric Cote says they want to provide their community an ability to reject a potential site if they so choose.
Cote says in this case specifically, he feels the provincial government should not be able to force or impose a landfill without first communicating with the town.
He says although measures are in place such as zoning to help townships, the municipality should have a say regarding everything within their limits.
