Hughes Pleased By Tabling Of Firearm Legislation, Says Bill Needs Much Review

Carol Hughes is pleased by the federal government’s decision to table legislation regarding firearms.

The Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP says it is important the government takes time to study Bill C-71 in-depth, aiming to make the legislation work for both gun owners and shooting victims.

Hughes says she understands communities within her riding such as Kapuskasing, may not be pleased to hear about the possibility of further gun legislation.

She says some sides may try to spin this as a gun registry bill.

Hughes also says most changes would be made to assist police in tracking gun crime.

The bill, which began being debated Monday in the House of Commons, could enhance background checks, as well as create new transportation regulations.
