NELHIN In Midst Of Creating Formal Network Of Doctors Offering MAID

Patients within the northeast region may soon have easier access to a doctor’s help when it comes to dying.

Vice President of Clinical for the North East Local Health Integration Network Dr. Paul Preston says almost 40 doctors are now trained in the area to offer Medical Assistance in Dying.

Preston says the early stages of the public referral network have had its challenges.

He says currently, they are using a call service to connect those in need to available doctors.

Preston also says many doctors will not provide the service outside their area, leaving the NELHIN to work out details of how to best offer access to the network.
