The first woman commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will hopefully bring needed change to a struggling system in Northern Ontario.
That’s according to Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes, who says the 24th RCMP commissioner Brenda Lucki has a past littered with excellence regarding First Nations relations.
Hughes points to her previous success as a major hope for the future.
She says further funding will be a key to helping create the necessary change.
Hughes says she expects issues such as treatment of Indigenous communities, and police aggression, will be corrected by Lucki.
