Hughes: TPP Agreement Will Hurt More Than Help

Northern MP feels signing of Trans-Pacific Partnership will hurt the Canadian automotive industry as well as weaken the environment.

Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes says the way the TPP was signed has left millions of Canadians in the dark.

Hughes says the lack of transparency from the process, something the Canadian government promised, should not make Canadians comfortable with these outcomes.

She says a lack of focus on the environment, Indigenous rights, and gender equality shows there are many concerns.

Hughes also says there have been a lot of concerns raised by those in the automotive sector.

In a National Post Report, representatives from the Canadian Auto Industry slammed Canada’s decision to sign the TPP, saying the deal is harmful to the auto sector.

The TPP was officially signed over a week ago in Cuba, involving 11 different countries, excluding the United States.
