Kapuskasing is pushing northern groups to make schools headed for closure, a local property.

At council Monday night the town of Essex’s request for resolution support was accepted regarding the offering of school properties to municipalities.

As a result, Kapuskasing council has decided it is best to support a request to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, as well as Rural Ontario Municipal Association.

The request states that when a school board closes down any school, they must offer the building to the local municipality for a single dollar.

Council agreed that providing the opportunity to purchase the buildings would ensure these properties remain a hub for social development in their communities.
