Council Unsupportive Of Proposed Transportation Project Direction

The community transportation grant project hit a snag at council last night.

Kapuskasing council decided Monday they would like further discuss their proposed $25,000 involvement financially over the next five years, in comparison to other municipalities involved.

CAO Guylain Baril says council’s main concern is who is in charge of the service in outlying areas.

Baril says council is now going to reflect on how much involvement they wish to have in bringing other citizens into town.

The first proposed direction involved sending a bus two days a week to and from Opasatika to Kapuskasing and two days a week to and from Moonbeam into Kapuskasing, with the fifth day of service being solely in town.

The second idea involved a five day-a-week bus route from Hearst to Kapuskasing.

Council decided not to support either of the proposed directions, instead asking for further details on the prior transportation survey completed in February.
