Stopping for school buses is a must, and you should always be aware of the rules regarding them.
That’s according to the James Bay Detachments of the OPP, who would like to remind the Kapuskasing community about the importance of school bus safety.
Media Officer Stephanie Belec says motorists must follow certain rules regarding school buses.
Belec says when approaching from the front you must stop at a safe distance to allow children to cross the road, and do not move forward before the red lights have stopped flashing.
She also says you can be fined up to $2,000 and charged six demerit points for failing to stop for a bus.
The OPP would like to remind all drivers to follow the rules of the road and to always stop when seeing flashing lights on a school bus.
