OSSTF Filing A Second Appeal Following Lockdown At KDHS

As the community still tries to wrap its head around last week’s lockdown, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation has taken its next step.

The OSSTF will file an appeal regarding both a January 23rd incident at Kapuskasing District High School, and a most recent lockdown this past week.

Originally, the Ministry of Labour and DSB ONE said there was no threat to public safety, but following a second incident this past week the ministry is demanding a workplace violence risk assessment.

OSSTF Teacher Bargaining Unit President Derek Beland says the lockdown incident only re-affirms that there was and is a credible threat to safety.

Beland says with how badly the scenario has been handled, the union is now filing an appeal to review how these two events were handled by both the school and province.
