Climate Change To Be The Main Focus During International Polar Bear Day

Starting tomorrow the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat will launch a new social media program titled ‘Meatless Mondays with Mig’ to educate people on the negative effects of climate change.

Habitat Manager Karen Cummings says tomorrow’s International Polar Bear Day will be about empowering others to make changes to their lifestyles, such as eating healthier to save waste.

Miguel Cheff, known as Mig, is a Northern Ontario vegan working at the habitat who says most people don’t realize the impact their food choices have on the environment and that plant based diets are the best way to fight climate change.

Cummings says since they can’t ask people to have fewer kids or to live without a car, they figure they can try to inspire one day without meat to achieve bigger results.

She also says they will be streaming live on Facebook with a habitat Conservation Coordinator and Keeper as well as selling ‘Climate Change is Not Cool’ t-shirts to help spread their message.

International Polar Bear Day at the habitat takes place tomorrow beginning at 10:30am.

The shirts can be found online here.
