DSB ONE Alerting Community Of Response Following Lockdown

Following a lockdown scenario at a Kapuskasing school, the District School Board Ontario North East is taking steps to notify the community of their ongoing response.

Director of Education Lesleigh Dye spoke with Moose News Thursday explaining that a student came forward yesterday to staff expressing concerns about another student’s comments regarding the school.

Dye says the OPP were promptly called in and a lockdown took place while they attempted to locate the student in-question.

She says police were able to do so by locating them off of school property.

Dye says following the lockdown, a Ministry of Labour representative issued a new order to Kapuskasing District High School to conduct a risk assessment in March.

She says they are focused on the safety of their students and staff and thankful for the student who spoke up.

Dye says they will be working closely with local police to maintain a safe school environment moving forward.

Currently, the OPP’s investigation is still ongoing at this time.
