Council Supporting AMO’s Position Regarding Bill 160

The town has decided to approve support for the Association of Municipalities of Ontario position against Bill 160.

Council decided Monday that they would support AMO’s position against the imposing of a fire-medic program through Bill 160.

Bill 160, which was passed in early December, sees the implementation of a new pilot project called Fire Medics, cross-trained firefighters who can perform certain paramedic duties.

Mayor Alan Spacek says AMO wants to make sure that this fire-medic concept does not get forced upon any municipalities.

Spacek says this is legislation communities have not asked for or wanted.

He also adds that paramedics are half-funded by the province, but there is no funding provided to municipalities regarding firefighters.
