Detour Gold Fined $70,000 From 2014 Incident

Mining company Detour Gold has received a $70,000 fine from a 2014 incident in Northern Ontario.

The incident took place at the Detour Lake Gold mine site which is northeast of Cochrane.

The Ministry of Labour says the incident involved the worker suffering critical injuries after his dump truck went over into a ditch on the open side of a haulage road.

Detour Gold has been charged under the Occupational Health and Safety Act with failing to take reasonable precautions for the protection of a worker.

The company was fined $70,000 at the sentencing in Cochrane.
