OPP Reminding Drivers To Avoid Distractions

The James Bay Detachments of the OPP is reminding drivers that no form of distracted driving is acceptable.

Media Officer Stephanie Belec says the OPP is taking an approach of combining education with focused enforcement on the issue.

Belec says texting behind the wheel is the equivalent of driving with your eyes closed.

She also says even adjusting your GPS or attending to others in the vehicle is considered a distraction.

Police are also reminding drivers that fines of upwards of $450 along with a minimum of three demerit points are being handed out to those distracted while driving.
