NOP Nominee Demands An End To Contracting Of Road Maintenance

An NOP nominee is demanding that Queens Park end the contracting of road maintenance.

Timiskaming-Cochrane NOP nominee Shawn Poirier has voiced his concerns with the care taken along Highway 11, calling it a death trap.

Poirier says four lanes, multi-lanes and more passing lanes are needed, much like Highways 69 and 17 near Sudbury and North Bay.

He says the key to making highways safer in Northern Ontario is putting the Ministry of Transportation back in charge of these and provincial roadway maintenance.

Poirier’s sentiments also echo that of Timiskaming-Cochrane NDP MPP John Vanthof, who has spoken multiple times in recent years about the far too many deaths taking place on Highway 11.

Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca said in December the government planned to look at Highway 11 following a series of collisions, though nothing has been done to date.
