Cochrane Community Coming Together To Bring Warming Centre To Town

Homelessness affects people all across the country, but a local group of Cochrane residents want to make a change to that.

A Warming Centre is being planned by the community for those who have nowhere to go to warm up from the cold, grab a drink and meal, and a good night’s rest.

In order to bring the centre to life, organizations such as Ininew Friendship Centre, Red Cross and Victims Services along with community volunteers have teamed up to support the project.

Friendship Centre Worker Mike Robin says the plan is to have the centre in the basement of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church on Sixth Avenue, and open nightly from 8:00pm to 8:00am, dependent upon the weather.

Robin says the plan is progressing well and they are awaiting a few aspects of the project to be finalized before opening the doors.
