One Northern MPP says the current Liberal provincial government has already done enough to hurt health care in Ontario.

Timiskaming-Cochrane NDP MPP John Vanthof was in Thunder Bay earlier in the week speaking about pre-budget consultations, including topics such as overcrowded hospitals and sky-high hydro bills.

Vanthof says cost problems in Northern Ontario are just as bad as the overcrowding issues in bigger cities.

He says people should expect the government to get health care right, and for far too long the system has been short-changed.

Kathleen Wynne meanwhile says the province is increasing the tools that the Ministry of Health and the healthcare system have to monitor what takes place in long-term care as well as hospitals.
