FONOM Awaits Platforms From Major Parties Prior To Election

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities is awaiting platforms from two of the three main political parties within the province regarding their vision for Northern Ontario.

FONOM in a press release today stated that only the PC Party of Ontario had responded to their earlier request for party platforms.

President of FONOM Alan Spacek says they are encouraged by the several different commitments made by the PC Party.

Spacek says they are committing to bringing back the Northlander, reversing increases to taxes on fuel for Northern airports

He says they also plan to invest in a mobile PET scanner and they are going to repel the Far North Act.

Spacek says he believes all three major parties must have a plan for the north, as Greater Toronto problems have no bearing on Northern Ontario.

FONOM is still waiting to hear from the Ontario Liberal Party and the Ontario New Democrats regarding their political platforms.
