DSB ONE Trustees Satisfied With 2018 OSTA Student Platform

Student trustees from across the province are pushing for improvements to education.

The Ontario Student Trustees’ Association’s Student Platform for 2018 was released Monday, listing 16 recommendations that hope to ensure Ontario’s education system continues to improve.

District School Board Ontario North East student trustees Jaykob Walton and Aiza Asif both applaud the report, saying some of their favourite recommendations are; suicide intervention, mental health training for staff, increase in guidance counsellors, basic CPR training and self-defense/conflict prevention training for students.

Asif says the focus should be on items such as mental health, but also, access to equal opportunities for students everywhere.

She says the right for students to create clubs in schools focused on their well-being is something that deserves attention.

The OSTA’s student platform is based off a student survey conducted of over 8,000 students from 62 different school boards across the province.
