Fire Department Urges Smoke Alarm Checks From The Community

The Kapuskasing Fire Department is urging the community to make sure they have working smoke alarms throughout their homes.

Fire Chief Pat Kennedy in a press release says in the wake of a fatal fire earlier in the week in Oshawa, they are reminding residents to check their smoke alarms and have a fire escape plan for your home.

Kennedy says fire moves fast, so you may have less than a minute to escape, therefore early warning is crucial to survival and only a working smoke alarm can do that for you.

He also says it is up to the community to make sure these types of incidents don’t take place here in Kapuskasing.

In case of an emergency, the department asks that you contact 911, for any non-emergency questions or information, you can contact the fire department directly.
